Appropriating the form and language of advertisements, Jenny Holzer's Televised texts are textual and spoken messages designed as interventions in commercial communication. Her terse and often humorous social commentaries provoke thought and criticism in an often passive audience.

Jenny Holzer was born in Gallipolis, Ohio in 1950. She received a B.A. from Ohio University in Athens in 1972, and an M.F.A. from the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence in 1977.
